Inside Fenway Park
Fenway Park is the oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball, opening in 1912. The walkways are so skinny that it’s a borderline miserable experience walking to your seats along the lower bowl, and to the camera well if you’re working there in a media capacity. The elevator takes forever and there are pillars everywhere!
It's also a life-changing experience if you love the game of baseball. The history of unmatched, the Green Monster is iconic, Pesky’s Pole is so close to home plate that many fans think they can hit a homer to right field, and some may actually be able to!
You can get there at 12 noon for a 7pm game and never get bored. There are bars, restaurants, Jersey Street, formerly known as Yawkey Way, where the main team store is located ... it’s not even in the ballpark! There are fans everywhere. There are banners everywhere. The vibe is amazing. There’s nothing else like it in baseball, and baseball is FULL of places that make you say “there’s nothing else like it!”
The fans have a passion for baseball and the Red Sox that is unmatched. They remember Fisk and Yaz, they remember Pedro and Papi, and they were treated to three World Series titles in a 10-season span ... and a 4th that happened in 2018! That’s FOUR titles in 15 seasons! Pretty impressive!
Fenway only holds 37,755 people, small by MLB standards, the team is almost always competitive and the passion runs deep for Red Sox baseball ... so it’s almost always packed!
The visiting camera well is the most uncomfortable in baseball because it’s, well, always packed. Partially because it’s so small in size. There’s almost always an overflow of photographers taking pics of the game for their respective outlets. There’s nothing you can do about it, so you just deal with it! BUT ... the aura of the place alone almost makes up for all of the little paper-cut inconveniences!
Janet Marie Smith pretty much rescued Fenway by retro-fitting major changes into a structure that hasn’t changed in over a century! Read her story and how she’s impacted the game at many of the ballparks you’ve been to! She will someday, be inducted into Cooperstown … hopefully!
There’s no other way to describe the baseball experience at Fenway Park. There have been so many superstars to wear a Sox jersey that we’d be here all day if we rattled off each name!
You wanna get punch drunk in baseball? Go to Fenway! Wanna tell your friends and family that you went to baseball’s grand cathedral? Go to Fenway!
We could talk on and on about every aspect of Fenway Park and what the experience is like, but he truth is you just have to experience it all!
Go as early as you can, get a pregame bite around the park. Walk across the David Ortiz Bridge. Check out the famous Citgo sign. Just do it all! You won’t regret it!
