Famous Moments & People in Wrigley Field History
The 2016 Team! Not sure there’s a close second to the team that broke the curse. Bryant, Rizzo, Russell, Baez, Zobrist, Arrieta, Lester, Hendricks, Dexter….led by Joe Maddon! These guys ended a 108-year title drought, and will be remembered forever in the Windy City.
The Bartman Game – Sorry, Cubs Fans!
Maddux’s 3,000th K – July 26th 2005 – His last name is its own baseball term! (A “Maddux” – search it!) Hall of Fame righty Greg Maddux freezes Omar Vizquel of the San Francisco Giants for his 3,000th career strikeout. It comes in his second stint in a Cubs uniform as Maddux becomes just the second Cub, and only the 13th pitcher ever, to reach this milestone! The Professor also had 355 wins and threw over 5,000 innings in his legendary career.
Kerry Wood fans 20! – May 6th, 1998 – Kerry Wood, at just 21 years old and only in his 5th career start, mows down 20! As if that was not impressive enough, Wood struck out hall of famers Craig Biggio once and Jeff Bagwell three times! Wood spent the first 10 seasons of his career with the Cubs, making two All-Star Games.
Clark the Cub! Born in 2014, Clark joined us to talk about one of the coolest jobs in baseball!
Ernie, Ryno, Sammy, Harry, Santo, Williams, Rizzo, Bryant, Billy, Maddux, Maddon, Fergie, Gracie, Hawk…. we could do this all day!
Sammy’s Chase, and MVP Award, in 1998 – Sammy Sosa hit homers 61 and 62 on September 13th, becoming just the 3rd player ever to hit 61 homers in a season. Sammy would win the NL MVP Award that season as well!
Ernie Hits #500 – May 12th, 1970 – If you are old enough to remember, you probably remember where you were when it happened. Mr. Cub becomes just the 9th player to reach 500 homers in MLB history.
