Famous Moments & People in Oakland Coliseum History“But today, I am the greatest of all-time!” – Rickey Henderson, May 1st, 1991.  Rickey Henderson breaks Lou Brock’s record for most steals in MLB history with his 939th career stolen base.   Rickey ended his career with 1,406 career steals, by far the most in the history of baseball, and quite frankly, will never be broken in today’s game.  

• Jeter’s Flip – Game three, 2001 ALDS – Yankees SS Derek Jeter, in his normal cutoff position, chases down an overthrown ball and makes a shovel pass to catcher Jorge Posada, who tags out a non-sliding Jeremy Giambi at the plate to end the 7th inning.  The play helped preserve a 1-0 Yankees win with the Bronx Bombers facing elimination.   The Yankees would go on to win the final two games….and the series.  

• Ray Fosse - RIP to a two-time all-star player and one of the nicest people to ever grace our game.  Ray was a beloved color analyst for the A’s for 35 years, touching the lives of many Bay Area fans.    

• A’s win their 20th straight! August 13th to Septemeber 4th, 2002 – The A’s won 20 straight games, capped off by three consecutive walk-offs, breaking the AL record set by the 1906 White Sox and the 1947 Yankees.  

• On Mother’s Day!!  Dallas Braden’s Perfect Game!  May 9th, 2010 – With his grandmother, Peggy Lindsey, in attendance on Mother’s Day, Dallas Braden throws a perfect game at the Coliseum.  Braden’s mother, Jodie Atwood, passed away from cancer when he was in high school.

• The A’s Threepeat! – 1972, 1973, 1974 – Led by Catfish Hunter, Vida Blue and Rollie Fingers on the mound and Reggie Jackson and Bert Campaneris in the field, the A’s win it all three straight 

• The Bash Brothers – Led by Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson and Dennis Eckersley along with “Bash Brothers” Mark McGwire and 1988 AL MVP Jose Canseco, the Oakland A’s win their 4th World Series Title over the San Francisco Giants in 1989.
