Famous Moments & People in Rogers Centre History
Joe Carter – Game Six, 1993 World Series – It may have put a dent in my upper teenage years, but give credit where it’s due. Joe came up big when it mattered most! It was a walk-off homer to win the World Series against my hometown Phillies, the team I rooted with all my heart and soul growing up. The neat part of this was hearing from the shortstop that game (LINK KEVIN STOCKER INTERVIEW HERE) as well as the Head Clubhouse Manager (LINK FRANK COPPENBARGER INTERVIEW HERE) and got an up-close account on what the vibe was like in the clubhouse after it happened.
Dan Plesac – June 5th, 1989 - He earned the save in the first game at Rogers Centre, and this is only here so you can read our chat of Dan earning the first save at Rogers Centre (LINK DAN PLESAC INTERVIEW HERE)
Joey Bat’s Flip of the Bat! – Enough said.
The 1992 and 1993 Back-to-Back World Series Champions
Vlad, Jr – The son of the hall of famer has a chance to make it himself! He’s made five straight All-Star Games, tw Silver Sluggers, a Gold Glove a Home Run Derby and an ASG MVP Award…..and it’s only his 7th season in the league!
Dave Stieb, Roberto Alomar, Carlos Delgado, Roy Halladay, Tony Fernandez and George Bell, to name a few!
The 1991 All-Star Game –July 9th, 1991 - Jays pitcher Jimmy Key throws a scoreless inning, as he’s one of three Blue Jays to make the mid-summer classic. Joe Carter, who would become a Toronto sports hero forever two-plus years later, and future HOF’er Roberto Alomar, joined their teammate.
Edwin’s Playoff Walk-Off – 2016 AL Wild Card Game – Edwin Encarnacion hammers a three-run homer in the bottom of the 11th off Ubaldo Jimenez of the Orioles to send the Jays to the ALDS, where they’d sweep the Texas Rangers.
Roberto Alomar’s Blue Jays career – Don’t sleep on what he did in five short years with the Blue Jays from 1991 to 1995. He made the AL All-Star Team each season. He won the Gold Glove Award each season. He won a Silver Slugger in 1992. He helped them win two straight World Series in 1992 and 1993. He became the first player ever to wear a Blue Jays hat upon his induction into the Hall of Fame in 2011.
