Famous Moments & People in Dodgers Stadium History
Luis Gonzalez
Diamondbacks Win the World Series – November 4th, 2001 – Luis Gonzalez’s bloop single in the bottom of the 9th in Game Seven wins the World Series for the D’Backs in just their 4th year of existence as a franchise. No Diamondbacks fan will ever forget where they were when it happened!
Randy Johnson
The Big Unit Punches Out 20! – May 8th, 2001 – Facing the Reds, led by future Hall of Famer Barry Larkin, Randy Johnson strikes out 20. Johnson is one of just five MLB pitchers to reach 20 Ks in a game.
The First Game – March 31st, 1998 – RHP Andy Benes’ first pitch is outside for ball one to Colorado’s Mike Lansing. The ball is taken out of play as fireworks shoot off high atop Bank One Ballpark, which would later be renamed Chase Field. The Rockies would win the game, and baseball is born in Arizona!
The Pool – Sometimes fans just have too much fun and get uninvited…
Womack Wins It – October 14th, 2001 – Luis Gonzalez’s World Series heroics would not be possible if not for Tony Womack, who won the game with a two-out single in the bottom of the 9th against the St. Louis Cardinals in the deciding game five of the NL Division Series.
Curt Schilling
Bob Brenly – Manager of the 2001 World Series Champion Diamondbacks, who later became a TV broadcaster for the team.
Paul Goldschmidt, who may be regarded as the nicest human being to ever play baseball.
The 2023 NL Champion Diamondbacks – The Diamondbacks, who won 84 games in the regular season, won two very hard games six and seven in Philadelphia in the NLCS to reach the Fall Classic. The Texas Rangers would win the World Series at Chase Field, but fans in the desert were treated to another long playoff run, similar to 2001, when they won it all.
Brandon Webb – The 2006 NL Cy Young Award winner spent just six full seasons in the big leagues, but his final three were nothing short of brilliant. After winning the Cy Young in 2006, he finished second in each of the next two seasons and was an NL all-star in all three.
